Petra, Jordan

December 1, 2015

A wise man once said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”. And Petra, you certainly took my breath away.

One of the new seven wonders of the world and an archaeological wonder known as The Lost City, the story of Petra may be a mystery to the rest of us, but it is no mystery why this city will make you believe in love at first sight.DSCF0691DSCF0602DSCF0710

Wadi Rum isn’t so shy to show off either. Only 2 hours away from Petra, Wadi Rum’s red sand dunes are made more dramatic with its scenic sunset. Red Planet and The Martian were shot here, if you’re into those sort of things, which I am by the way. And it is no wonder why they filmed those Mars movies here. This place is out of this world.

I’m in Jordan. They’re in Palestine. Israel is around the corner. This is the Holy River. Cool would be an understatement.

Another highlight of my Jordanian adventure is taking up Jordanian cooking classes at Petra Kitchen. Meeting people from all over the world and sharing a meal together, which i must say is the best meal I had in Jordan, is one of the reasons why you choose to leave home and travel in the first place.

For a girl who can’t swim even it means saving her life, the Dead Sea is like a gift from the gods. Well, it is. Careful not to splash water in your eyes though. Or you’ll be cursing the same gods!

The donkey, my hero! Petra is massive. 8 hours wouldn’t be enough to see the whole of Petra aka The Red Rose City. So if you want to save some time, or ehm if you’re too lazy to walk, take a donkey ride. Just be ready to pay a hefty tip. You’ll thank me later when you go up The Monastery.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Treasury. Large, beautiful and jaw-dropping. Or as other people may call it (including me), the one where they filmed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Reward yourself with a cool drink and some seesha when you get there, and just take it all in. You deserve it.DSCF0815
